Producers & Partnerships
LEBENSKLEIDUNG × COTONEA
Cotonea is one of our most important partners for organic cotton – and since 2018 also our cooperation partner for high-quality, durable woven fabrics.
The collaboration is based on shared values, transparency along the supply chain and the ambition to implement organic cotton not only sustainably, but also in a technically convincing way.
Pioneers of organic cotton through and through
Since 2018 we have been working with Cotonea – a partner that consistently produces organic cotton along the entire supply chain. A large part of our woven fabrics is made from this high-quality cotton.
That is precisely why the cooperation should become visible: as a partnership from which we gain professional and human experience. In 2017 we traveled together to Uganda and were able to visit cotton fields and ginneries (ginning stations). Besides impressions from the cultivation, the main topic was: What makes organic cotton not just sustainable, but truly high-quality?
Over the years, we have also regularly visited Cotonea's main site in Bempflingen, as well as their Czech weaving mill. This allowed us to learn about processes, decisions, and quality standards firsthand – and pass this knowledge on to you.
Why the quality is so convincing
Besides shared values, it is primarily the materials themselves that convinced us. The raw material, the degree of fiber combing, and the subsequent processing are crucial. When combing, care is taken to ensure that not only some of the short fibers are removed, but a higher proportion.
This creates a yarn made of long-staple fibers. This typically results in finer, more uniform yarns: The fibers are better aligned, the surface becomes smoother and the diameter of the yarn and fabric is more stable.
Well-combed fibers also contain fewer impurities and shorter fibers – this makes the yarn stronger, and the fabric more durable. Especially in high-wear projects (e.g., bed linen or durable items).
From seed to fabric – the most important steps
Agriculture & Cooperatives (GADC)
Cotonea works with partners such as GADC and supports self-help initiatives: stable structures, knowledge transfer and perspectives for smallholder farmers in organic cotton farming.
From seed to fabric
The journey begins in the field and leads through ginning, combing, yarn production, and weaving to the finished fabric. Each step influences feel, stability, and durability.
Combing & long-staple fibers
Combing removes short fibers and impurities more effectively. The result is more uniform, finer, and more durable yarns – and therefore higher-quality fabrics.
Processing & Quality Assurance
From ginning to yarn quality to the final fabric: what is crucial is that quality is not only claimed, but measurably ensured throughout the process.
Fairness & Responsibility
The Fair for Life label stands for fair conditions along the entire supply chain – from the cultivation of organic cotton through trade and processing to the finished product. It complements ecological standards with a comprehensive social perspective.
