The diversity of Cretonne at a glance
The Cretonne is woven in a classic plain weave.
This is considered the simplest type of basic weaving weave, yet it is extremely stable. Warp and weft threads are closely interlaced, and each warp thread alternates between passing over and under a weft thread.
- The resulting fabric is remarkably strong and very dense. The front and back sides look exactly the same – or, in technical terms, 'identical in weave'.
- Cretonne is made of cotton, a natural fiber that benefits both the environment and the body. It regulates temperature and moisture and offers exceptional comfort.
- Our organic cretonne is perfect for sewing beginners! After pre-washing the fabric, you can cut it with ease. Because it has a slightly matte and textured feel, there's no risk of the fabric slipping. The only thing is that it needs to be finished, as it tends to fray slightly – so don't forget the appropriate seam allowance!
- This robust fabric couldn't be easier to care for. Ideally, wash it at 30° or 40°C and iron it at a moderate temperature. If the fabric is also printed, make sure the washing temperature doesn't exceed 30°C.
- Tablecloths, sofa and cushion covers, or bed linens – the list of home textiles for which cretonne can be used could go on almost endlessly. The same applies to clothing: cretonne is a reliable choice for dresses, shirts, trousers, or pajamas, and can also add a stylish touch to any apron! Cretonne in two words? – Simply fabulous!
