Quilted fabrics – padded fabrics for jackets, vests & accessories

Quilted fabrics are multi-layered, padded fabrics where the outer fabric, filling, and backing are firmly joined together by quilting. This construction provides warmth, stability, and the characteristic quilted look. Quilted fabrics are often sold by the meter for jackets, vests, coats, or bags.

Our quilted fabrics encompass a range of qualities – from double-layered combinations of flannel and sweatshirt fleece to padded corduroy fabrics with lining, and quilted fabrics with recycled polyester wadding. Depending on their construction, these fabrics are suitable for both clothing and functional accessories. You can find the exact material composition and care instructions clearly stated in the respective product details.

What is a quilted fabric?

A quilted fabric – often also called quilting fabric – consists of several layers permanently joined together by quilting stitches. Typically, a quilted fabric comprises a top layer, warm wadding, and a backing or lining fabric. The quilting secures the layers, creates volume, and gives the fabric its characteristic texture.

Our quilted fabrics – different constructions & qualities

Not all quilted fabrics are created equal. In our range you will find various options that differ in material, weight and intended use:

  • Double-layered quilted fabrics made of flannel and sweatshirt fleece for soft, warm clothing
  • Padded corduroy quilted fabrics with lining , suitable for jackets or vests
  • Quilt fabrics with recycled polyester wadding for functional and durable projects

What are quilted fabrics suitable for?

Thanks to their warming and dimensionally stable properties, quilted fabrics are versatile. Depending on their quality and construction, they are particularly well-suited for:

  • Jackets, vests and coats
  • Transitional and winter clothing
  • Bags, shoppers and backpacks
  • Accessories with volume and presence

Properties of quilted fabrics

The multi-layered construction gives quilted fabrics special functional properties:

  • warming thanks to integrated padding
  • Dimensionally stable and durable thanks to firm quilted seams
  • Depending on the upper material, soft, grippy or textured
  • even volume distribution without the filling shifting

Quilting fabric, quilting fabric or quilting lining?

The terms are often used interchangeably, but differ in detail. Quilted fabrics and quilting fabrics generally refer to quilted, padded fabrics sold by the meter. Quilted lining, on the other hand, is usually thinner and specifically designed as an inner lining. You can find information about the thickness, construction, and recommended use with each product.

Working with quilted fabrics – sewing tips

When sewing quilted fabrics, it's advisable to use clips instead of pins to prevent the layers from shifting. A slightly longer stitch will ensure a neat seam. It's best to test the needle and thread tension beforehand on a scrap of fabric, as quilted fabrics can vary in thickness depending on their construction.

Material & Transparency

Our quilted fabrics vary in quality, differing in their outer material, padding, and backing. Some varieties contain recycled polyester in the padding, while others combine natural materials like cotton or corduroy with lining fabrics. The exact material composition, weight, and care instructions are clearly listed in the respective product details.
