Silk as a fabric – properties & special features
Silk is a natural protein fiber prized for its exceptional fineness, fluid drape, and subtle sheen. Silk fabrics feel pleasantly cool against the skin, are temperature-regulating, and highly breathable. This makes them particularly suitable for elegant tops, dresses, blouses, or flowing layered garments.
Why we only offer silk as deadstock
Conventional silk production is associated with high resource consumption and complex ethical issues. For this reason, we do not carry newly produced silk fabrics at Lebenskleidung. Our approach: If high-quality materials already exist, they should be used.
Our silk fabrics are deadstock items from high-fashion production. They come from surplus stock or discontinued collections and are saved from being discarded. In this way, we avoid additional environmental impact and extend the life cycle of a fabric that has already been produced.
Origin & Quality
The currently available silk fabric comes from the label SLY010 and meets the highest standards of material quality and workmanship. You can find the exact material composition and all available information transparently in the respective product description.
Use silk consciously
Silk fabric is particularly suitable for projects where material value, feel, and design are paramount. As deadstock, each batch is limited – ideal for one-of-a-kind pieces, capsule collections, or distinctive designs with character.
If you are looking for alternatives with a similar drape and high skin friendliness, we also recommend our Lyocell fabrics or cellulose-based viscose qualities .
