With WO-MUM, Jaroslava Šnejdarová has created a sustainable maternity wear label that combines comfort, design, and responsibility. In this interview, she talks about founding WO-MUM, the development of sustainable fashion in the Czech Republic, and why community, collaboration, and conscious choices are central to her.

When was WO-MUM founded and what was the deciding factor?

WO-MUM was originally founded in 2019 as a maternity wear label and has grown alongside my children. The decisive factor was a combination of my passion for fashion and a growing concern for the environment. I wanted to create a brand that not only offers stylish and unique clothing but also puts sustainability and ethical practices at its core. A supportive community of women has also formed around WO-MUM.

Do you sell your items exclusively online or are you also present offline?

Currently, we operate primarily online through our e-commerce platform. At the same time, we are beginning to present our collections at sustainable fashion events and in pop-up shops to strengthen personal interaction.

What is your experience of the sustainable fashion scene in the Czech Republic?

In recent years, the Czech fashion industry has undergone a significant shift towards greater sustainability. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental and ethical impact of their purchases and are actively seeking out responsible brands. The public discourse surrounding eco-friendly fashion and fair practices has also become more prominent, which is very encouraging.

What challenges do you repeatedly face in your work – and how do you deal with them?

Sustainability in fashion presents several challenges. Sourcing environmentally friendly materials is often time-consuming and expensive, and ensuring fair wages and ethical working conditions can be logistically complex. We address these challenges by carefully selecting reliable, sustainable suppliers and maintaining close relationships with our production partners. This ongoing effort aligns with our values.

What does sustainability mean to you – both professionally and personally?

Sustainability is a way of life for me. In my work, it means making conscious choices that minimize environmental impact and promote fair practices. In my personal life, it means reducing my carbon footprint, supporting sustainable brands, and actively seeking ways to protect the planet for future generations.

What role do collaborations and networking play for you?

Collaboration and exchange are incredibly important to us. They allow us to share knowledge, experience, and creativity within the fashion community. Cooperations with other designers, influencers, and sustainable organizations help us reach new target groups and spread our message. Together, we can drive positive change in the industry – we truly value these connections.
