Satin fabric – elegant, sustainable and always ready for use

When people hear "satin," they think of elegant, glossy upholstery and ties. But this beautiful fabric isn't just visually appealing; it also scores points for its durability and ease of care. Satin gets its name from the Arabic word "Zaytoun," which refers to the Chinese city of Quanzhou, formerly one of the most important trading centers for silk.

However, satin fabric doesn't necessarily have anything to do with silk: 'Satin' primarily refers to the type of weave – a satin weave – in which the top side is interwoven with weft threads and the bottom side with warp threads.

Satin can be made from a variety of materials. Here at Lebenskleidung, you'll find satin fabric made from fine organic cotton, suitable for bed linens and towels as well as evening dresses and shirts.

Caring for satin fabric

To keep your satin fabric items looking beautiful for a long time, it's important to care for them properly. Generally, satin fabrics should be hand-washed at a low temperature or machine-washed on a gentle cycle. Always check the care label for instructions to ensure you're treating them correctly. To dry, lay satin fabrics flat to prevent creasing. When ironing, it's advisable to use the lowest temperature setting or iron on the reverse side of the fabric to avoid damage.
