What is a jacquard fabric?
Jacquard doesn't refer to a type of fabric in the traditional sense, but rather to a weaving or knitting technique. Special Jacquard machines are used to incorporate patterns directly into the fabric – either through different weaves in woven fabrics or through varying stitches in knitted fabrics. This creates designs with depth, texture, and high durability.
Jacquard woven fabrics & jacquard jerseys
Our product range includes two different jacquard qualities:
- Jacquard woven fabrics with a firm structure and clear pattern design
- Jacquard jerseys , knitted and elastic, with a soft feel
While jacquard woven fabrics are particularly dimensionally stable, jacquard jerseys offer more flexibility and freedom of movement. Both types share the characteristic that the pattern is an integral part of the fabric.
Natural materials: Organic cotton & TENCEL™ Lyocell
Our jacquard fabrics are made exclusively from organic cotton (kbA) and/or TENCEL™ Lyocell . These materials offer exceptional comfort, breathability, and a premium feel. TENCEL™ Lyocell also gives jacquard fabrics a fluid drape and a smooth surface.
Jacquard is not brocade
Jacquard fabrics are often confused with brocade. Brocade is generally heavier, often shiny and decorative, while jacquard fabrics can be very diverse – from subtly textured to graphically patterned, from light to bold. Our jacquard fabrics are modern, wearable, and versatile.
What are jacquard fabrics suitable for?
Depending on their quality, jacquard fabrics can be used for different projects:
- Dresses, skirts and blazers
- Trousers and jackets
- Knit and jersey garments with texture
- special statement pieces with patterns
Woven or knitted fabrics – the difference
Jacquard woven fabrics are produced on a loom and are generally less elastic, but very dimensionally stable. Jacquard jerseys, on the other hand, are knitted and offer natural stretch. Which type is more suitable depends on the desired drape, fit, and intended use.
Design & Pattern
Jacquard fabrics are defined by their patterns. The designs are created through the interplay of yarn, technique, and weave, resulting in a particularly high-quality appearance. Because the patterns are not printed, they remain vibrant even with intensive use and after many washes.
Material & Transparency
All relevant information regarding material composition, width, weight, and care can be found directly with each product. This allows you to determine whether it's a jacquard woven fabric or a jacquard jersey and which quality suits your project.
