What is lyocell?
Lyocell is an industrially produced cellulose fiber derived from wood. Unlike many synthetic fibers, Lyocell is based on a natural raw material and is processed using a particularly environmentally friendly method.
Lyocell, TENCEL™ & REFIBRA™ – what is the difference?
Lyocell describes the fiber type. TENCEL™ and REFIBRA™ are registered trademarks of the Austrian company Lenzing AG for lyocell fibers produced under clearly defined ecological and technological standards.
At Lebenskleidung, all Lyocell fabrics are made from fibers by Lenzing . However, for selected deadstock grades, we do not always have the formal product certificates required for official labeling as TENCEL™. Out of transparency and responsibility, we consciously communicate these differences openly.
Sustainability through closed-loop processes
Lyocell is produced using a so-called closed-loop process. In this process, up to 99% of the solvent and water used are recovered and reintroduced into the production cycle. This results in significantly lower resource consumption compared to many other fibers.
Properties of lyocell fabrics
- exceptionally soft & smooth
- breathable & moisture-regulating
- temperature-regulating – cooling in summer, pleasant in winter
- antibacterial properties
- Suitable for sensitive skin
Woven fabrics & knitwear made from lyocell
Our product range includes both woven lyocell fabrics and knitted qualities. While woven fabrics impress with their elegant drape, lyocell jerseys and knit fabrics offer additional elasticity and comfort. Our TENCEL™ Rib Jerseys and REFIBRA™ woven fabrics are among the most popular fabrics in our shop.
Lyocell fabrics at Lebenskleidung
We source our lyocell fabrics from transparent supply chains and work closely with partners who share our values. In addition to regular qualities, we deliberately also carry deadstock fabrics in order to make sensible use of existing resources and to transform textile surpluses into high-quality products.
Whether for your own label, a larger production project or creative individual pieces – our Lyocell fabrics stand for modern textiles without compromise.
