Individual Fabric Productions & Sourcing

You want to create Your own fabrics or colours? We support You as an external sourcing and production department – from idea to delivery.

Our service is aimed at small and growing labels, organisations and projects. Individual productions are possible from realistic minimum quantities.

We do not produce ourselves, but work with a large network of selected, sustainably producing partners across Europe and abroad.

When this service is not suitable

very small quantities under approx. 30 m; purely hobby or individual projects; express or rush productions; 1–2 m; special colors or custom-made items

What can be produced?

We produce individual fabrics based on proven qualities as well as selected new developments – always in close coordination with our producers.

Typical fabric types include:

  • Knitted fabrics such as jersey, sweatshirt fabric, rib cuffs, interlock, velour, fleece
  • Specialities such as honeycomb or rib qualities
  • Woven fabrics (usually with higher minimum quantities)
    You can either choose from existing qualities and create Your own colours – or work with us to find a suitable new development. What matters is always what is technically, economically and sustainably feasible.

Fibres & Sustainability

Our individual productions focus on sustainable and certified fibres. Depending on the project, the following materials are possible, among others:

  • Organic cotton
  • Cotton blends (e.g. with elastane)
  • ECOVERO™
  • TENCEL™ Lyocell
  • Wool & wool blends
  • Linen & hemp
    We deliberately do not offer technical textiles, highly synthetic materials or special coatings.

Minimum quantities & realities

Custom fabric productions are subject to minimum quantity requirements , which are based on
Machines, yarns, dye works and production processes result.

Smaller quantities are not economically or technically feasible due to machine setup times,
Minimum quantities for yarns and dye works, as well as certifications, must be taken into account.

  • Depending on the quality, knitted fabrics usually start at 45–60 m per color.
  • Woven fabrics range – depending on their construction – between 50 m and 240 m².
  • The minimum quantity applies to each color and quality.

Where we produce

Depending on the fabric type and project, we produce with partners in Germany, Portugal, Turkey, the Czech Republic, France, Greece or India.

We work with both long-term production partners and on a project basis – always with the aim of ensuring reliable supply chains, fair conditions and the right technical execution.

As a GOTS-certified company, we can also offer GOTS-compliant productions – provided the fabric is certifiable. For TENCEL™ Lyocell, we provide the corresponding Lenzing certificates.

This is how an individual fabric production works at Lebenskleidung:

  • Production of colour samples (lab dips)

FAQ INDIVIDUAL FABRIC PRODUCTION

What are the minimum order quantities for individual productions?

Typically from about 45–60 m for knitted fabrics and from 50–240 m for woven fabrics – depending on quality, color and production process.

Which fabrics can be custom-made?

Primarily knit fabrics such as jersey, sweatshirt fleece, ribbing, or interlock, as well as selected woven fabrics. We will assess the exact feasibility on a project-by-project basis.

Where are the fabrics produced?

In Europe – including Germany, Portugal, Turkey, Czech Republic, France and Greece.

In Asia - in India and Taiwan.

How long does it take to produce a custom fabric?

The industry standard is approximately 8–10 weeks from order confirmation , plus transport. Season, yarn availability, and dye works capacity can affect delivery time.

Are there any patterns or color schemes?

Yes. We always try to provide samples and color swatches (lab dips) so that you have a solid basis for your decision.

Do you offer express production services?

No. Custom fabric production requires planning and lead time – express production is not possible.

Do you also handle the garment fitting?

We do not do the assembly ourselves, but we can recommend experienced partners.
